Capt. Holder is a charter member of the Board of Directors of the Mother Pearl Alumni Association.
“For a seven-year-old boy growing up in the Bronx, New York, becoming a pilot and flying through the air seemed as wistfully brilliant as tying on a makeshift bath towel cape and pretending to be Superman. The desire to fly like his favorite superhero fueled the lifelong journey that airline pilot Capt. Anthony Holder would have. He says his dream of flying was cultivated at Howard where he majored in Engineering, minored in Mathematics, and joined the Air Force ROTC where he gained his first experiences as a pilot.”
“After graduation, Capt. Holder joined the United States Air Force, and as the only person of color, completed his pilot training and began flying. He completed his master’s degree in Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California. He was later stationed at Anderson AFB in Guam and honorably discharged in 1978. Holder, who flew for FedEx, has accumulated more than 22,000 hours of flight time and over 3000 landings, has flown more than 15 different aircraft (including civilian propeller, single seat fighter type, the B-52 bomber with 4 nuclear weapons with targets in Russia before his 24th birthday, and more recently, the Boeing 777 jumbo jet), and travelled the world. He retired with 42 years of accident-free flying experience with the first seven as a USAF jet pilot and the next 35 as an international jumbo jet captain with FedEx.”
